Renting in Tassie is broken. Let’s fix it.

Tasmania is on the front line of a national rental and housing crisis. We have the most unaffordable rents and the fastest increase in homelessness in the country.

For too many people it’s impossible to find affordable, safe rental homes that meet their basic needs. Rents are skyrocketing and landlords and real estate agents are taking advantage of vulnerable tenants.

The Greens believe it’s time to change things. We have a plan to fix the rental market and make it fairer for everyone. 

We want an immediate two-year freeze on rent increases followed by a limit on rent rises to help with affordability for tenants. We also want to establish stronger minimum standards for all Tasmanian rental homes to ensure safe and healthy living conditions.

We want to make sure tenants have more security in their homes by abolishing ‘no cause’ evictions. And we’re campaigning for the construction of more social and public housing to increase the availability of homes for people in need.
